Fixtures have been released for the 2023/24 rugby union season with mixed opening day luck for Cumbria’s leading sides.
For while Kendal and Penrith both start with home games in Regional 1 North West all four sides in Regional Two North open the same day, September 2, with away trips.
Kendal will start at home to Stockport while Penrith, following their promotion, will open at Winters Park against Macclesfield.
They follow-up on September 9 with their first away games as Penrith go to Stockport while Kendal will travel to Manchester. At least Penrith’s coaching team will have the opportunity to speak with their Kendal counterparts on what to expect from Stockport!
The two derby clashes will be eagerly anticipated and Kendal will have home advantage at Mint Bridge on November 18 while Penrith will stage the return at Winters Park on March 16.
In Regional Two North all four Cumbrian clubs face trips to the north east on September 2.
Upper Eden go to Consett; Cockermouth are at Durham City; Aspatria visit Middlesbrough while Keswick are on the road to West Hartlepool.
Aspatria are even on the road the following week to Stockton and they will make their seasonal debut at Bower Park against Northern on September 16.
On Sept 9 Cockermouth’s first home game is against Percy Park; Keswick entertain Durham City and Upper Eden host West Hartlepool.
It does mean the Cumbrian clubs will enjoy six derby games during the season and among the earlier ones are: Cockermouth v Aspatria (Sept 23); Aspatria v Keswick (Sept 30); Upper Eden v Aspatria (Oct 14); Cockermouth v Keswick (Oct 21) and Upper Eden v Cockermouth (Nov 4).
