Barrow made sure of a hard-fought 26-18 home win over Widnes Vikings with a last-minute try and conversion.
Shane Toal picked up a loose ball and raced almost 50 yards for the touchdown which Ryan Shaw improved to seal the win.
It hadn’t looked as though it was going to be so tight for at half-time Barrow were nicely in front 18-0.
Only a penalty from Shaw enabled them to stay out in front at 20-18 as the Vikings stormed back, and had a chance to level up but Tom Gilmore missed a 40 metre penalty shot at goal.
Barrow had started strongly and took the lead on five minutes when the ball was turned cleverly back inside for Anton Iaria to crash over under the posts. Shaw converted.
Widnes then had a good spell of possession and it was Barrow who had to earn their medals in defence, preventing the Vikings from getting through them.
But on 25 minutes Barrow increased their advantage. Charlie Emslie went down the left and fed Jarrod Sammut inside. The Maltese international put in a clever kick and it was Emslie who followed-up smartly to dive on the ball and claim the try which Shaw converted.
More Widnes pressure was dealt with strongly by Barrow and they had a good spell before the break which saw Iaria power over for his second try, again converted by Shaw.
The Vikings needed a quick score and they got it on 44 minutes when Sam Wilde got over and Gilmore added the extras.
When they followed-up on 47 minutes with a second try from Joe Lyons, again converted by Gilmore the alarm bells were ringing for the Raiders.
Then when the home side were awarded a penalty Shaw landed the kick to stretch the advantage to eight points.
It proved a sensible decision for on 56 minutes Widnes scored again with Aaron Brown going over under the posts andb Gilmore converting.
It was now a two-point game and it could have been level but Gilmore missed with a penalty attempt.
For over 20 minutes it stayed 20-18 with both sides having their moments until relief for Barrow on 79 minutes with the try by Toal and conversion from Shaw.
