A Kendal man has admitted flouting a court order — by entering a town store which was staffed by a lone woman he didn’t know.
Linley Hassan, 34, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court in May last year for a sexual assault which he had committed in August 2021.
As part of his punishment, Hassan, of Lowther Street, was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order.
But when Hassan appeared at the crown court again, he admitted breaching the order on December 7 2022.
He did so, the court heard, without reasonable excuse, by entering a store staffed by a single female who was a stranger to him when he had no intention of purchasing any items from the premises.
Hassan had also faced a second charge alleging a sexual assault on the same date. But in view of his guilty plea to the breach, a prosecutor said the mixed pleas were an acceptable resolution of the case. As a result, the sexual assault allegation was not being pursued.
Hassan’s case was adjourned by Judge Nicholas Barker, who heard the case had a complex history due to the defendant’s mental health difficulties.
Judge Barker sought an update on Hassan’s current circumstances. Hassan is due to be sentenced for the court order breach on July 18 and in the meantime he was remanded in custody.
