Improvements to Lake District’s Castlerigg Stone Circle road

Before and after: Eleventrees in Keswick

The road to Castlerigg Stone Circle near Keswick has been improved.

Cumberland Council contractors have been at Eleventrees and repaired potholes, patched the road and strengthened its edges.

Marker posts have also been installed to make the road more visible to drivers. The edge of the carriageway previously had a drop of up to 0.5 metres.

The teams working on the project have completed about 22 metres of wall edge strengthening and completed approximately 40 tonnes of pothole patching repairs.

Next month, the team will reinforce an additional 60 metres of the wall edge and take advantage of the road closure to repair any potholes that may be present in the area.

Councillor Denise Rollo, Cumberland Council’s executive portfolio holder for sustainable, resilient and connected places, said: “We understand that potholes can be frustrating for residents. As part of our commitment to addressing this issue, we encourage all residents to report any potholes they encounter.

“Reporting a pothole is now easier than ever before. You can use our online form or call us directly to report a problem. Both methods take approximately five minutes to complete, and our team will handle the rest.

“Thank you to all our residents for their continued support, and patience while we keep everyone moving across our network.”

To report a pothole, visit the council’s website, or call the Highways Hotline, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm on 0300 373 3736.
