Last night saw the final meeting of three which have been staged at Wardhall.

The number of hounds were understandably down as many people opted to keep their hounds fresh for Saturday’s International Trails at Sewingshields.

In the senior hounds there were only four runners but they gave a good show as course specialist Miterdale Duchess continued her winning streak for Denis Pear and Jackie Gill.

It was her fourth win on the trot as she beat home Ian Donaldson’s Huntsman’s Quartz.

The win for Miterdale Duchess took her to just three points behind table leader Winterfell who wasn’t running last night and was being kept fresh for the week-end trail.

Darren McMaster and Silver Dream

The open puppy race saw a small field of six hounds taking part with Silver Dream sent off favourite from Artist.

As the hounds came back in to sight in the bottoms there were two with a slight lead from the rest of the pack. As they climbed up the hill it was seen to be the two favourites that were racing together.

They were neck and neck all the way up with Silver Dream for Darren and Julie McMaster just getting up before the line to take the win from Bill and Pat Mellon and Robert and Tina Airey’s Artist after a great battle between the pair.

The open maiden race was a fairly open one again with just seven runners as Sarah Jayne and Sam Crow were sent-off joint favourites.

However as the hounds came on to the finish there were three hounds with a slight lead and it looked as though Black Edition for Lisa Whitfield was going to get up to win.

But all three hounds kept coming and as they got to the line it was Kieran Woolaghan’s Go Go Frankie who put a last big effort in to take the win. This is the hound’s first win and the first win for Kieran.

Kieran and his family only got involved in hound trailing over the last couple of years and it just shows with perseverance anyone can get a winner. Well done to Kieran and Go Go Frankie.

The last race of the night was the All In with 15 runners and it was Darren McMaster, Sadie Wilson and Phil Graham’s Silver Streak who won with Tania Satterthwaite’s Swamp Fox in second place.
