A West Cumbrian hotel has been sold to a leading hospitality group from a guide price of £1.6 million.
The Hunday Manor Hotel, in Winscales, near Workington, has been sold to Osprey Hospitality Group, in a deal brokered by commercial real estate firm Colliers.
The specialist hotel agency team at the firm sold the 27-bedroom hotel from a guide price of £1.6million. The hotel which is set in four acres of grounds, was owned and managed by Joe Wilson.
Along with 27 bedrooms it has a 70-seat restaurant, lounge and cocktail bar, and conference and banqueting rooms for 250 guests.
Mr Wilson has sold the hotel to retire. He said: “I’ve had a wonderful time managing the hotel over the years and have enjoyed welcoming our thousands of guests including families, tourists and locals celebrating their events in our suites.
“However now is the right time to handover the reins to a new owner/operator, who I’m sure will continue to provide a great experience for our guests.”
Osprey Hospitality Group currently operates The Galloping Horse in High Harrington and The Peddler in Whitehaven. This will be its first hotel asset for its UK hospitality portfolio.

Craig Lowery, of Osprey Hospitality Group, said: “Hunday Manor Hotel is a great business ideally located on the edge of the Lake District National Park and near our other properties.
“As a growing business we’re excited to take on the next challenge of welcoming guests and hosting special events for our customers including weddings and other special occasions. We have exciting refurbishment plans for the hotel and we look forward to sharing these soon.
“We’re looking forward to continuing our commitment to provide job opportunities to local people and engaging local suppliers to provide outstanding produce. We have exciting refurbishment plans for the hotel, and we look forward to sharing these soon.
“We would like to thank the previous owner, Mr Wilson and his family for their efforts in concluding the sale and we wish them all the very best for the future.”
Hunday Manor – and Frederick’s Lounge Bar in Cockermouth – closed unexpectedly in January and the firm running the venues collapsed.
At the time they were managed by Western Lake District Hotels Ltd.
The Hunday Manor Hotel closed on January 9 for three days, but it is believed it then closed down for good on Saturday January 14, with bosses telling staff it was not reopening. It is understood they were all told there were no longer jobs for them.
People were left distraught after weddings and events they had booked at the Hunday Manor did not go ahead because of the closure.
They did both reopen under new management .
It was unclear at the time if the Wilson family were still involved with the hotel and Cockermouth bar. Joseph Wilson was appointed as a director of Western Lake District Hotels in April 2017, but resigned in May last year.
