Whitehaven’s Stella the seal has been checked on by a marine mammal medic following a report of marks on her neck.
Bosses of the town’s marina said a member of the public had reported the marks to British Diver Marine Life Rescue on the evening of Thursday, June 29.
In a Facebook post, the marina said: “On Friday morning, a marine mammal medic came to the harbour to see Stella. We can happily say she is fine and her usual happy and healthy self, even posing for photos and videos the medic was taking, which she will forward on to her headquarters.
“A group of cyclists setting out on their coast to coast trip didn’t even faze her. Thank you to the member of the public who made the phone call, it’s lovely to know that she has so many people looking out for her.”

The organisation also issued a polite reminder to those hoping to catch a glimpse of Stella to avoid getting close to her.
Dog owners were reminded to keep their pets away from Stella as a seal bite can cause serious harm.
The marina added that similar incidents can be reported to them on 01946 692435 or alternatively, incidents can be reported directly to British Diver Marine Life Rescue on 01825 765546.
