A young couple were rescued after becoming cut off in the dark on a West Cumbrian beach.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team were called out on Tuesday to Seascale to help the couple.
The young couple were on holiday in the area for a few days and had spent the evening walking and exploring the rock pools and sand dunes between Seascale and Drigg.
With only minimal clothing and no torches, the couple found themselves benighted.
They had slipped on the rocks and felt unsafe in safely navigating themselves through the rock pools from the low water line back to the safety of their accommodation, and so decided to call for assistance.
A Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team spokesman said: “The team were soon on scene and accessed the beach with its 4×4. A quick trip down the beach and we soon located the casualties who were rather cold. Once warmed up, they were accompanied back to their accommodation and the team returned to station to washdown.
“A very simple and nontechnical tasking. The couple realised they weren’t familiar with their surrounds and with not having lighting they decided it was best to call for help before falling and injuring themselves or become cut off once the tide began to flood.”
