It’s not often that a sports team can take their training session onto the front lawn of their sponsors!
But that’s exactly what Wigton rugby union club did this week to thank one of their backers.
They conducted their training routines on the lawn and grounds of the Greenhill Hotel, worked up a thirst and then enjoyed their hospitality.
Coach David Warwick said: “The squad wanted to show their appreciation for the support and sponsorship that the venue has provided over the last couple of years.
“The squad worked-up a thirst on the front lawn of this popular wedding and events venue under the watchful eyes of former Wigton playing legend Robert Marrs and co-coach Paul Casson before refreshments were taken.”
Owner Wayne Jackson said: “We are proud to sponsor the new training shirts for Wigton RUFC, our local team involving local lads and wish them all the best for the new season.”

Training has been going well, with excellent numbers and on August 12 Lowmoor Road will host an intriguing first friendly.
In fact it’s going to be a three-game opener as Consett, Hartlepool and The Stewartry are bringing teams so they will play three 30-minute sessions among themselves.
On August 19, there’s a Young Farmers tournament at Wigton involving several club players while there will also be a full-scale trial – the Probables v the Possibles.
In addition there’s a training game pencilled in at Cockermouth on Wednesday, August 23 with the Counties One Cumbria League season due to start on September 4 at Creighton.
Wigton Under-18s are also taking part in their own pre-season training, preparing themselves for the North East League they will be contesting this coming campaign.
