Workington Town have signed the Whitehaven winger Dave Eccleston for the next two seasons.
Eccleston is moving to the Fibrus Community Stadium for the 2024 season and has a deal to keep him at the club until the end of the 2025 campaign.
An ever-present for Whitehaven this season he has scored five tries in 20 appearances and in his first season, 2022, grabbed five touchdowns in 19 games.
The deal reunites Eccleston with Town coach Murray as he previously played for him at North Wales Crusaders.
Eccleston said: “When I met with Muz and he went through the club’s ambitions and goals for next year I wanted to be part of it.
“I’m excited to play under Muz again as I know what a great coach he is and I thoroughly enjoyed my rugby under him previously.”
It’s a bonus, too, that Eccleston lives and works in the area having relocated to Frizington when he joined Whitehaven.
Eccleston started with the Blackbrook amateur club before joining St Helens but did not make the first team squad, although was well thought of in the reserve team.
He joined Oldham for 2018 before switching to North Wales where he played over 30 games in his two years at the club.
He was subsequently recommended to Whitehaven by their forward, at the time, Liam Cooper and he joined ahead of the 2022 season on a two year deal.
Town coach Murray said: “He’s a great lad and a real team player, who always rolls up his sleeves and has a really good work ethic.
“He always puts his hands up, makes those hard carries and can score tries at crucial moments in a game.”
