Only one game involving a Cumbrian side goes ahead this weekend in the National Conference League.
But the Holmen Iggesund Cumberland ARL action started last night, with one more tonight and two more tomorrow. The Saturday games will kick off at 1pm as the majority of games have been cancelled this weekend because of the televised Challenge Cup final at Wembley.
Four games were played last night in the Conference and there’s one more tonight but Millom have the field to themselves tomorrow.
They will host Eastmoor Dragons in Division Three when victory would edge them two points closer to the three teams above them who are all on 26 points.
Third-placed Leigh East have completed their fixtures and the title will rest between Ellenborough and Oldham St Anne’s who each have one game to play.
Millom have 89 points to make up on Leigh East as far as scoring differential is concerned and two wins will put them level.
In the Cumberland League Kells A beat Hensingham A 20-10 last night in a game where both sides finished with 12 men. Referee Rob Scott sent off Danny Docherty (Kells) and Ruben Butterworth (Egremont) for punching.
Luke Charlton, who is on dual registration from Workington Town, put Hensingham A ahead after five minutes and Ben Pearce converted.
They held that lead until a minute before half-time when Kells drew level. Martin O’Neill crossed for the try and Harry Watson added the conversion.
Three minutes after the interval Kells went ahead with a try from Dean Telford which Watson converted while Jamie Jennings crossed twice in the 60th and 66th minutes to stretch the lead to 20-6.
Ten minutes from time Stephen Hodgson scored a second try for Hensingham which went unconverted.
Tonight it’s the turn of Egremont Rangers A and Wath Brow Hornets A to serve up the entertainment at Gillfoot.
Both games tomorrow are early kick-offs (1pm) as Lowca host Glasson Rangers and Cockermouth Titans entertain Ellenborough Rangers A.
