My chat last week with Mitch Graham threw up a surprise, but familiar name, one I thought was worthy of a chat to.
Jimmy Nelson had been mechanic to Mitch during his speedway career with Workington Comets but I had known him through football from as far back as the 1960s and then through pigeons from the 1970s.
So Jimmy, who runs the Long and Small Garage at Flimby, was sought out and he agreed to have a natter about his sporting interests.
But I also threw in the history of Long and Small and the infamous Foxy Fowler who had been caught as he tried to burgle the garage while on the run after a jail break.
Jimmy had an interesting take on that arrest and subsequent press interest in the garage; on acting as mechanic for Mitch Graham and his best moments in pigeon racing with the late great John James Tinnion.
