Plans have been lodged for 23 new homes in Whitehaven.
Developer John Swift Homes wants to build the estate on land north of Harras Road.
It will be discussed by Cumberland Council’s planning committee because it is considered to be a major housing scheme which lies outside of Whitehaven’s designated development boundary.
Members of the committee are due to meet on Wednesday at the Civic Centre in Carlisle from 10.30am.
The application is a resubmission of a previous scheme which was refused by the members of the Copeland Council’s planning panel which was against the officer’s recommendation.
It is recommended that planning permission be granted subject to a number of conditions including a planning obligation that three of the properties should be classed as affordable.
Homes would include four two-bedroom properties, nine three-bedroom properties and 10 four-bedroom properties. They would be a mixture of single storey and two-storey dwellings of detached, semi-detached and terraced design.
Three of the properties would be ‘affordable’ and have suggested they would have two bedrooms.
According to the report, because of the sloping nature of the site, it is proposed to form developable areas of the land by a cut and fill arrangement effectively stepping down Harras Road.
A number of residents have objected to the proposal and Whitehaven Town Council has said it will continue to support them in their objections of the developments.
The report added: “In addition, the ward councillor has also written a separate letter of objection and has requested that he be able to address the planning committee with concerns regarding access, drainage, and overcrowding.”
