Whitehaven lost for the third time this season to London Broncos when they went down 34-18 in the capital.
However it was a gritty effort by the Cumbrians against the Championship’s form team as they won the second-half 12-10.
With all the other strugglers losing at the bottom of the Championship, it’s still all to play for as Haven, Barrow, Keighley and Swinton battle to avoid the drop with Newcastle Thunder.
Haven will be fine provided they can show the same spirit in their remaining games with Halifax (home), Batley (away), Swinton (away) and Toulouse (home).
London had scored five tries to lead 24-0 before Whitehaven got on the score-sheet just before half-time with a Dave Eccleston try, converted by Josh Rourke.
Although the Broncos were first to score in the second-half with an unconverted try, Whitehaven responded when Lachlan Lanskey barged over for his first try for the club. Rourke again converted.
London were next to score again with a converted try to lead 34-12 but Whitehaven scored again before the end through Rourke, who converted again, to confirm that the visitors had scores more second-half points than their hosts.
