
Workington 2nds won the Marsden Cup when they beat their Millom counterparts by 29 runs in the final at Egremont’s Gillfoot Park.
Skipper Robson Scott played a crucial knock at a time when Workington were in trouble at 75-6.
He made 37 off just 38 balls and helped revive the Workington innings so that they finished their 45 overs on a more competitive score of 135-8.
David Chisnall had earlier supplied a patient (18) when Workington had looked in trouble against the Millom opening bowlers Fred McVerry (2-14) and Callum High (2-23).
The Workington total was boosted, too, by 33 extras which included 18 wides and five no balls.
Ben Scott struck two early blows for his side by clean bowling both Mike Wilson (2) and Cade Heavyside (8) but Millom continued to make progress through McVerry.
Millom, in fact, were ahead of Workington on innings comparisons at 94-6 before Ben Scott came back into the attack to take three more wickets.
Crucially the last one was McVerry for a gallant 54 and he, in fact, was the tenth wicket to fall, giving Workington their victory.
Scott took 5-20 off his 8.1 overs; Chisnall had 2-10 from six and Matt Lannaghan finished with 2-20 off four.
