Workington Town completed the regular season with an 18-6 home win over Hunslet in what was one of their best displays.
Hunslet had finished second in the final table, with Town fifth, and the Cumbrians will be at home next week to North Wales Crusaders as they start the play-offs.
Defences were very much to the fore, but it was Town’s extra zip and cohesion in attack which saw them through to victory with an excellent second-half effort.

The only try of a tight first-half came after 19 minutes when Hanley Dawson did well to gain possession under the Hunslet posts and go in for the try which Cieran Walker converted.

Eight minutes into the second-half Carl Forber made a break to put Matty Henson in for the second try which Walker again converted.

The visitors got back into the game on the hour when Dan McGrath somehow evaded the Town defenders to score a try which Matthy Beharrell converted.

There was some uncompromising defence from both sides after that but a vital third try for Town on 66 minutes settled the contest. Jordan Burns spotted a gap and hared through it to touchdown with Walker again converting.

During several tough exchanges in the closing stages, a bit of a fracas occurred and both sides had a man sent to the sin bin but at the final hooter Town were the deserving winners.
