A West Cumberland Sunday League game had to be abandoned yesterday when one of the players suffered a badly broken leg.
Leo Brennan, who also plays for Windscale in the Wearside League, was injured in a 50-50 tackle playing for Moresby Rangers against Northside.
There was a considerable delay before he was transported off the pitch and to a car, and then taken to the West Cumberland Hospital. That apparently was said to be quicker than waiting for an ambulance.
It did not seem the right thing to continue after that and both teams agreed with the referee that the game should be abandoned and re-played at a later date. Northside were leading 2-1 when the injury occurred after an hour.
Parkside improved their position at the top of the Premier Division when they beat Dearham Commercial 5-1.
Callum Birdsall (2), Jay Weatherill (2) and Leigh Dunn scored for Parkside with Attlee Skillen on the mark for Dearham.
Bluebell ended a poor run of form with a very good 1-1 draw at Lowca Pirates, who were the Egremont League champions last season.
Carl Denver scored the Bluebell goal with Oliver Todd on target for the Pirates.
Thornhill struggled again for a team to play FC Cosmos and there was no fixture with the points awarded.
Sun Inn continue to lead the way in Division One after they maintained their 100% record with a 5-3 win at previous leaders Salterbeck.
Richard O’Keefe was a hat-trick hero for Sun Inn while Kieran McCluskey and Dan Pearson also netted. Salterbeck kept in contention with goals from Charlie Shaw, Logan Potter and David Watson.
Seaton Rangers were celebrating after picking-up their first point in an exciting 4-4 home draw with Senhouse Street, after they had led 2-1 at half-time.
Dan Graham (2), Guy Richardson and Ryan Mahoney scored for Seaton with Chris Williamson (2), Paul Brown and Dec Moore ensuring Senhouse went away with a point.
Kyle Davis recorded the best individual performance of the day as he cracked in four goals for Flimby Social in their 7-1 win at The Sun. Brandon Birks, Harvey Shimmings and Ryan Blinco also found the target with Jay Wilson responding for the Sun.
The mid-week games have now been completed so the next games are on Sunday.
