A Friday night under the Parkside Road lights helped revive the fortunes of Kendal Town.
After two successive defeats there were fears that the Mintcakes’ brilliant start to the season might be starting to unravel.
But although shocked by an early Skelmersdale goal, Jimmy Marshall’s men roared back to win 6-1.
It had started disappointingly when a poor defensive header in the third minute allowed Paul Bollongino to steer home the opener for Skem.
The home side had to wait 20 minutes to get back on terms and inevitably it was top scorer James Bailey who provided them with the equaliser. He was able to get on the end of a cross and find the back of the net.
Bailey was there again after 31 minutes rising highest at a corner to head home the second.
It was another corner which provided Kendal with their third goal. This time it was Matty Flynn at the near post who headed home.
Set pieces were clearly causing the visitors problems and eight minutes into the second half it was Bailey again who was there to head in the fourth and complete another hat-trick.
On 59 minutes there was a debut goal for Jon-Jo Morris. The former Longridge, AFC Blackpool and Garstang winger showed his ability cutting in past a defender and smashing a great shot into the bottom corner.
In cruise control by now Kendal even took off Bailey after an hour but they still managed a sixth goal after 86 minutes when Elliot Wilson headed home a Ben Thomas cross.
As well as the result the most pleasing feature of the game was a bumper attendance of 861.
The hard work being put in by the club officials and volunteers, to back Jimmy Marshall and his team, is paying off big style.

Before last night’s game both teams, officials and spectators took part in a minute’s applause for club stalwart Graham O’ Callaghan, known to one and all as ‘Chelsea’, who died this week.
Tributes are on the club’s Facebook and in Jimmy Marshall’s post-match interview on the club website.
