Barrow needed a penalty to earn a point against a Newport County side reduced to 10 men two minutes before half-time.
The Welsh side had just taken the lead after 40 minutes when Ryan Delaney was sent off for a second yellow card.
They held the lead until the 69th minute when Robbie Gotts was fouled by Asdam Lewis in the penalty area and the spot kick was awarded. Dean Campbell made no mistake.
Newport had a penalty of their own earlier in the game before they took the lead when George Ray brought down Will Evans, but from the spot kick Omar Bogle hit the post.
The home side did take the lead when Shane McLoughlin hit a pile-driver into the top corner from a clever pass by Lewis Payne.
It was a decent game, fairly even although 11 against 10, and although Barrow are 10th in the League they do have a game in hand of all but one of the teams ahead of them in the table.
