Workington manager Danny Grainger was proud of his side’s effort in a 3-1 defeat at Darlington in the FA Cup.
Reds fell to two goals in the last 20 minutes after getting back on terms in the first half through Steve Rigg.
He said: “Credit to the team because Terry and I asked them to do something different by conceding possession and then working hard to contain them.
“I thought everyone put in a shift and if we had got the second goal before them it would have been different. They are going through a bad spell and going behind might have set the fans against them.
“We had two opportunities to do that with Niall (Brookwell) and Scotty (Allison) and as we know goals change games and although it’s frustrating I’m proud of their efforts.
“I thought the support we had from Cumbria was brilliant and I’m only sorry we couldn’t give them the Cup run they crave.”
Grainger was also able to report an injury-free game as he awaits ankle scan results on Lewis Reilly and a surgeon’s view on Bobby Carroll’s knee injury.
Reds are back in action next Saturday with an NPL Premier Division trip to Bradford Park Avenue, which is followed by the final home mid-week game on the Tuesday against Lancaster City.
