Workington Town have re-signed forward JJ Key on a two-year deal – joining five other players who are stayed at the Fibrus Community Stadium.
Ciaran Walker, Jordan Burns, Jake Bradley, Jack Stephenson and current Whitehaven winger Dave Eccleston are confirmed signings for 2024 or longer.
After joining from Seaton Rangers a year ago Key started the season, and his professional career, very well and has shown all the attributes of what is required to succeed and be a mainstay of the squad for years to come.
Unfortunately injuries to his chest and hamstring affected the 2023 season but in the losing games of the campaign he was back in the matchday squad after working hard to regain fitness.
A Town spokesman said: “It was great to see JJ work hard and return to the matchday 18, showing the type of character and determination required to return and play as soon as possible.
“He is a very likable and popular squad member and an excellent representative of Workington Town.”
Being the right kind of character is essential to coach Anthony Murray in choosing who is in his squad.
His grandfather Andy Key was a prominent member of the Workington squad in the 1950’s until an ankle injury at Wembley in the ’58 final with Wigan ended his career at the age of 23.
