A Carlisle burglar has heard a prison sentence is the most likely punishment for breaking into two city homes and assaulting people he found in his way.
Michael Parker, 26, admitted eight crimes when he appeared in front of a judge at the city’s crown court.
Parker pleaded guilty to two offences of burglary with intent to steal having entered as a trespasser two homes on Nelson Street in Denton Holme, Carlisle, on July 26 this year.
On the same date, Parker admits assaulting a man and woman by beating. Those two victims are said by the prosecution to be occupants of the houses he broke into.
Parker further admits one charge of affray — having used or threatened unlawful violence towards other people — and one of attempted burglary at Higginson Mill, both offences having been committed on July 10.
During a short hearing in court, as Parker appeared remotely over a video link, he also admitted stealing a variety of food and drink belonging to the Co-operative, and interfering with a Nissan Juke vehicle. These crimes were committed on July 26.
Parker’s case was adjourned by Judge Nicholas Barker, who asked for the preparation of a probation service pre-sentence report.
“You will understand there is a likely outcome. It will be a custodial sentence. It will be addressed at the time (of the sentencing hearing),” said Judge Barker. “You will receive your credit (sentencing discount) for pleading guilty today. That will stand you in good stead.”
Parker, of Stonegarth, Carlisle, is due to receive his punishment at the crown court on October 16. In the meantime he will remain remanded in custody.
