In entertaining FA Trophy tie went Hyde’s way 3-1 but there was plenty for Reds boss Danny Grainger to feel pleased with in defeat.
Grainger had to make eight changes from the side which beat FC United last week and his starting eleven included five teenagers. They were in contention until Hyde’s third goal nine minutes from the end.
“I was really happy with the way the young lads performed. I thought they were excellent and over the first half we were the better team.
“Hyde are a good side and I thought there was a key moment in the second-half when Kofi (Moore) hit the bar and they came back and scored to go in front. We had been on top in the second-half until then,” said Grainger.
The first chance of the game fell to Hyde’s Antoine Makoli and home keeper Danny Eccles, playing his first game since breaking a leg in pre-season, made a fine reflex stop.

But on 16 minutes the visitors went ahead. A fine ball in behind the home defence by Ryan White found Redshaw who thumped the ball home from 12 yards.
Workington deservedly drew level a minute before half-time when Brad Hubbold lifted a ball into the box and Steven Rigg rose above Sam Waller to head home.

The home side started the second-half impressively and looked to be in the ascendency but the game changed after Kofi Moore had almost grabbed the lead. A thundering strike hit the bar and went to safety and three minutes later Hyde were in front.
A shot from Harry Bunn was blocked by Eccles but a defensive clearance hit White and looped up over the covering defender to finish in the net.

Hyde looked more comfortable after that and they clinched the win on 81 minutes. From a corner a header by Jack Turner was cleared off the line but it fell to Redshaw who scored from close range.
Workington weren’t as effective in the closing stages when they were chasing the game but at least Grainger was able to get 15 minutes into new signing Jamie Devitt coming off the bench.
