Cockermouth have turned the clock back in making their professional appointment for 2024.
Shrikant Mundhe, now 34, was pro at Sandair back in 2014 when Cockermouth finished fourth in the old North Lancashire and Cumbria League Premier Division behind champions Furness, Cleator and Keswick.
The Indian all-rounder had a particularly good year with the ball, taking 50 wickets at 11.16. He was the leading pro wicket-taker and only Cleator’s David Blackwell (52) took more.
With the bat he scored 353 runs, with a top score of 72 and finished on an average of 35.30.
Cockermouth was his first club in the UK but since then he’s gone on to pro for Colwyn Bay, Harborne, Read and in 2021 with Netherfield.
His biggest achievement was at Colwyn Bay in 2016 when he became the first Liverpool Competition Premier League bowler to take 10 wickets in an innings.
He took 10-85 in 24.1 overs when Birkenhead Park were bowled out for 168.
Mundhe became only the 17th league player – dating back to 1920, to claim a full house (10 wickets in an innings) and just the fifth player, since the standardisation of fixtures in domestic cricket in United Kingdom in 1949.
In between stints in Cumbria with Cockermouth and Netherfield, Mundhe has played for Harborne (Birmingham and District Premier) and Read in Burnley who play in the North West Counties.
Cockermouth’s Gareth White said: “We are delighted to see Shrikant coming back to the club. We were his first club in the UK and he’s done well elsewhere.”
