Whitehaven have announced the re-signing of Ross Ainley on a 12 month deal ahead of the 2024 Championship season.

It follows his first season as a professional in 2023 after a successful trial period from his amateur club Kells.

He made his competitive debut away to Bradford Bulls in the opening round of the 2023 Championship and became a regular in the starting line up in the latter stages of the season.

He went on to make 22 appearances for his home-town club and produced a number of hard-grafting performances.

Commenting on his decision to re-sign Ainley said: “It was a big step up for me coming from the National Conference League. I thought I handled it alright and overall I was quite happy with it.

“The coaches have been a brilliant. It was quite overwhelming at the start but towards of the end of the season I thought I found my feet quite well.”

Ainley becomes the eighth confirmed member of the 2024 Championship squad with more announcements coming in the next few weeks as the club continue to build for next season.
