There was action at both ends of the association on Saturday with the Alwinton Show taking place in the north and Wasdale Head Show taking place in the south.

Both had a fine, but cold day, to contend with.

Alwinton Show hosted three hound trails with the seniors starting proceedings with a small slip of ten but one which proved to be the biggest slip across the day.

Many people are now laying off their hounds as the season comes to a close at the end of October.

As the runners came back into sight it was a good finish with at least half a dozen hounds on the finish at the same time.

However Winterfell, who had the lead, managed to maintain this to cross the line in first place. The win took him to 25 for the season and looking as though nothing will stop him from winning the Championship title.

Denton Shamrock for Sandra Mordue and Lee Wall finished well in second place with Winterfell’s kennelmate Ron taking third.

Ian Fleet and Jayne Petersen’s hound Chapel Stile was fourth with Willie and Daphne Mark’s Summer Spirit finishing well in fifth.

Linda Neale and the Bryden’s Eagle Love also finished well to earn the final ticket.

The pups were next with a small slip of five but they didn’t manage to complete the course in the allotted time and the race was declared void.

The last race of the day at Alwinton was the open restricted again with a small field of five hounds.

Brian Graham and Eleanor Chisholm’s Eleanor’s Lass crossed the line in front of Marti Borthwick and Co’s Castle Clansman.

David Clifford’s Eden Rayna finished in third place with Linda Neale and the Bryden’s Eagle Rock and Eagle Star taking fourth and fifth.

Wasdale Head Show hosted a four card meeting and was also struggling for runners.

There were nine runners competing in the senior hounds and as they came back on to the finish it was Glenis and Raymond Farren’s Jenny’s Oracle who won easily from Denise Bland’s Huntsman’s Rebel.

Denis Pear and Jackie Gill’s Miterdale Duchess finished in third place with Denise’s other hound Missriff finishing in fourth and Ian Donaldson’s Huntsman’s Quartz taking fifth.

The last ticket went to Sophie Steele’s Miterdale Honesty.

Next to race were the senior maidens with only four runners and it was Roy Laidler’s old faithful hound Cuckoo Lane who crossed the line in first place followed by the three contenders from the Foxparke kennel – Mo Farren, Who Gives A Toss and Shackalackaboomboom.

The open pups were next with a small field of seven hounds.

As they showed on the finish there were three hounds clear and it was a good race to the line with Denise Bland’s Hunstman’s Sunshine hanging on to win with Foxparke Fair Lady finishing in second, Glamorous Ava, who had dropped back down to the shorter distance, finished a close third  for James McClelland.

Denise’s other hound Huntsman’s Star finished in fourth place with the Foxparke kennel getting another ticket in fifth place with Side Kick and then Sophie Steele had to settle for another sixth ticket with Kinniside Miracle.

The last race of the day was the puppy maidens with a small slip of just four runners.

As they showed it was Foxparke Majesty who led coming into the last field and held on to cross the line in first place from kennel mate Foxparke Danny Elliot.

They were followed home by Sophie Steele’s Miterdale Dust and then last but not least Huntsman’s Delight for the Little and Bland kennel.

Third place for Miterdale Dust moves him up to top of the Puppy Maiden Points competition.

The busy weekend continues with a four card meeting taking place at Seaton today with the first of a series of three trails which are usually ran this time of year. The first race slips at 1pm.

The second of the series is on Tuesday slipping at 3.30pm and then the final one will be on Tuesday October 24 slipping at 3.15pm.

Anyone wishing to attend just needs to head out of Seaton towards Broughton Moor and the trail field is on the left hand side going along the long straight before you get to the junction for Camerton and Flimby.
