Kendal Town might have lost 2-0 to North West Counties leader Bury but there was plenty to feel pleased about with Saturday’s game.
Chairman Michael O’Neill said: “I am immensely proud of how our volunteers carried out their duties to make it a successful and safe event for the club.
“It showed how far we have come – a million miles really from when we staged our last big game on the ground against Workington.
“Obviously we had to pay for extra stewards from outside but the extra facilities we provided for the 1,400 crowd ensured we did well from the game.
“As for the game it was really about fine margins. I think those fine margins went our way when we won 3-2 at Bury earlier in the season and this time they went in their favour.
“There was one particular tight call 20 minutes from time when an offside call went against us. But a goal then would have made it a very interesting finish.
“Bury are a very good side and I think they will go on and win the League but we have games in hand and are still very much in the mix. We intend to be there at the end of the season.
“In the meantime I think we have proved we can handle a big crowd and we look forward to other days liken these.”
