Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team responded to five callouts in a single day – as it hit a record for rescues in its history.
From 11.10am today, Sunday, November 12, the volunteers were called out to the incidents at Crummock Water, Green Gable, Cockermouth’s war memorial and Dumfries.
A few of its team members joined the Remembrance Day service on the summit of Great Gable, along with members of other teams.
The team said: “They were well positioned to start assisting a group where one of the members had suffered an ankle injury – treating that group member, and walking other group members off to the warmth of the Honister Slate Mine cafe.
“At much the same time, we were called to kayakers who had capsized on Crummock Water, an incident that was largely dealt with by Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.
“Just as we were approaching the vehicles with the casualty with an ankle injury, we were made aware of another person in the same area with a broken arm, and went to assist, treating them and driving them back down the Honister Mine track.
“Meanwhile, back in Cockermouth, team members in the base treated a teenager who collapsed at the Remembrance service at the war memorial.
“And a couple of team members were up in Dumfries, providing drone support to a large search.”
The team said in 2023, it had attended over 80 callouts for the first time in its history.
