Barrow Raiders Ladies have appointed Paddy Maher as the team’s new strength and conditioning coach.

With a Masters degree in strength and conditioning, the 31-year-old was previously a course leader on the subject at Myerscough College.

He also holds the role of head of strength and conditioning at Football League One side Carlisle United, having worked with the club for the last seven years.

Maher is also part of the Barrow Raiders men’s team and will now transfer his skills and knowledge onto Amanda Wilkinson’s ladies outfit as they prepare for life in Group 1 of the Betfred Women’s Super League.

Outside of work, he continues to enjoy all things sport and is an avid follower of football, rugby and cricket.

Discussing his new role with Barrow Ladies, Maher said: “I’m really looking forward to working with the team. Myself and Amanda’s views are aligned on the importance of getting the players physically ready for the Super League challenge.

“For the most part, it’s about learning how to train properly. I want to make sure they’re training like athletes and doing the proper work. I want them to be the best athletes they can be while Amanda focuses on the technical and tactical side of things.

“We are aiming to develop the strength and power qualities of the team alongside their overall fitness, in order to give them the best chance of succeeding this season.”
