Carlisle City will stage the most important non-league game in Cumbria tomorrow – and they will be going for another club record.
Last week’s FA Vase tie at home to Charnock Richard was frozen off and prospects are bright ahead of a second attempt tomorrow.
It’s a third round tie, and that’s the furthest Jim Nichols’ side have ever gone in the competition, so another win would mark more club history.
The North West Counties side will be a test, however, and Nichols has checked personally on them, rating the opposition as a “very good side.”
But, from day one, and with only one home defeat in the Northern League, Nichols has always believed against teams from the same level City would have a very good shout of progress.
The winners tomorrow face a fourth round trip to the winners of Emley (Huddersfield) and West Didsbury and Chorlton (Manchester).
In the Northern League there’s a big opportunity for Penrith to move further away from the drop zone.
They entertain Tow Low who are joint bottom with one point from 14 games.
Darren Edmondson’s men have already beaten the other side at the bottom, Sunderland RCA 7-1.
In the North West Counties Premier Division early leraders Kendal Town have seen their season stall and they now occupy sixth, just outside the play-off places.
Tomorrow they have a key home game with Prestwich Heys one of the teams above them in the table.
The Mintcakes should have played leaders Wythenshawe last Saturday but that was frozen off and has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, February 6.
In Division One North Holker Old Boys have slipped to ninth and have a tough task tomorrow at table leaders St Helens.
Windscale have enjoyed a good start to the Wearside League campaign and currently sit fourth in the table six points behind the leaders Gateshead Leam Rangers with a game in hand.
That will be two games after tomorrow as Windscale have a free week-end while the Gateshead side visit Silksworth Colliery who are down in 12th.
Whitehaven were the only side to collect a win in the West Lancashire Premier Division last week when all the other games were off.
A fine 2-0 win at fourth-placed Fulwood sets them up nicely for a home game tomorrow with third placed Lostock St Gerard’s.
Neighbours Cleator Moor Celtic also have an attractive home fixture against second-placed CMB who have only lost once in 15 games.
