Two late scores helped St Benedict’s win 28-23 at Creighton in their final Counties 1 Cumbria match of the year.
James Taylor scored two unconverted tries in the last three minutes, the second on 80 minutes to earn Benny’s a last-gasp win.
In wet, miserable conditions the result was always in doubt, and St Benedict’s took the spoils after the home side led 23-18 with three minutes to go.
A losing bonus point seemed scant consolation for Creighton who had scored tries through winger Harry Moth, and forwards Nathan Harmon and Jason Tait. Full back Keenan Foster kicked two penalties and a conversion.
Tom Chambers and Amdrew Middleton had scored Benny’s earlier tries while Aidan Pirie did the kicking.
St Benedict’s end the year in third place in the table, but some 16 points behind runaway leaders Carlisle although they do have two games in hand.
Creighton are ninth of the 13 clubs involved in the Cumbrian League with three wins so far in the competition.
