Carlisle will host Aspatria in the semi-final of the Cumbria County Cup on Saturday, February 24.
The same date has been discussed between the other semi-finalists, Upper Eden who entertain neighbours Penrith, but has still to be confirmed.
Aspatria will celebrate 150 years as a club next season and would like nothing better than add to their impressive list of cup triumphs ahead of that significant milestone.
The Black Reds were the first winners of the competition back in the 1882/83 season and since then have reached a total of 32 triumphs – the last being in 2012/13.
From 1976/77 to 1995/96, which were the club’s golden years, they only missed out five times on taking the trophy back to Bower Park.
Hosts Carlisle, who are comfortably leading the Counties 1 Cumbria table after last season’s relegation will relish the opportunity to face opposition from their old level to see just how well they are back on track.
Carlisle first won the County Cup in 1885/86 but have only won it five times since, the most recent being in the 2016/`7 season.
Penrith are the holders and the most successful in the modern era with nine wins since the turn of the century. They first won it in 1959/60 but all their wins since have come after their 1999/2000 success.
Their meeting with Upper Eden is a repeat of last season’s final in which Penrith triumphed 38-5 at Kendal.
Upper Eden was only founded in 1975 and they have never won the competition, with last year’s run to the final their finest Cup exploit. Their aim is to go one better this time.
