A 16-year-old Carlisle boy has appeared in court accused of driving dangerously along a number of West Cumbrian roads during a police pursuit on New Year’s Eve.
The boy, who cannot be identified because of his age, faces five charges.
One alleges that he drove a Toyota Yaris dangerously on Moss Bay Road, Westfield Drive, Newlands Lane, High Street, the A596, A595, B5306 and several other unnamed roads.
Other charges allege that the teen failed to stop the vehicle when required by a police constable, driving while disqualified and without insurance, and the aggravated and unlawful taking of the Yaris, which was damaged during the incident.
When the boy appeared at Carlisle’s Rickergate court, magistrates were told that a stinger strip had been deployed by police during a chase through several West Cumbria towns.
Magistrates adjourned the case until Friday of this week, when the boy is due to return to court and enter pleas to the charges that he faces.
In the meantime he was remanded into youth detention.
