
Veteran striker Steven Fletcher lifted Wrexham to a remarkable 4-1 home win over Barrow.
The Welsh side had gone behind in the first minute and then, during a 14-minute period of added time they scored three times to lead at the break.
The extra time followed a nasty head injury to Barrow’s David Worrall when the game was held up for a considerable amount of time before he was stretchered off.
In a hectic New Year’s Day of football the top four met-up with second-placed Mansfield winning at leaders Stockport while third-placed Wrexham increased their lead to four points over Barrow.
It couldn’t have started any better for Barrow when right after the kick-off Kian Spence was on hand to turn home a low cross from Elliot Newby.
It stayed that way until the time added on at the end of the half when Wrexham cut loose to open up a 3-1 lead.
Fletcher scored his first after a precise one-two with Paul Mullin to equalise and then Mullin cracked home a free kick to put to the hosts in front. Barrow went to sleep at a corner and Fletcher headed his second to turn the game round completely.
Fletcher completed his hat-trick after 67 minutes when he got on the end of an Anthony Forde cross to head home.
There could have been a consolation second for Barrow near the end but Dean Campbell saw his strong shot come back off a post.
