Tom Brennan is expected to be at the forefront of future British teams for years to come.
So the good news for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund, and anyone heading for the Bonanza at Workington on March 16, is that the 22-year-old Tom will be making his third successive appearance at the event.
He says “The Ben Fund is a meeting I will always do. Regardless of the situation, regardless of my situation, it’s a meeting that I will use to give back to them. They are good for the sport and they are good for me.
“I’ve done it the last two years and reached the final both times, getting third last year. It’s a fantastic way to start the year.”
Tom’s two appearances were at Peterborough in 2022 where he scored 12 points to qualify for the five-man final, and at King’s Lynn in 2023 where he again scored 12 and came third in the final.
As with most of the competitors Tom will be racing at Workington’s new Northside track for the first time. It’s a venue which will attract riders to race there.
Tom says: “I’m actually really excited to be going to Workington. Stevie Lawson has done a fantastic job there and I think he is proud of what they have achieved.
“It’s new, it’s exciting and there have been really good reports back from people like Dan Bewley and others who have ridden there. I’m excited to be part of that.
“We watched the National League Riders meeting from there, that was very good, and now they have moved up they will be seeing some very good riders there.”
Having won league titles with both previous clubs Belle Vue and Glasgow, the young British star will now be lining up for two new UK teams in Birmingham and Poole. How difficult will that be?
“It’s something I’ve never done before, it is exciting and it is different, and it’s obviously a challenge. Poole is a place I have kind of struggled in the past so it’s time to put that right.
“Of course I’ve only ever ridden for Belle Vue in the top league, and at Birmingham I have only ever ridden for Glasgow, so that will be a whole new change of management and riders when I go there.
“I’m also racing for Gdansk in Poland which is also a very good spot for me, they seem to want to work with me, and I have Kumla in Sweden which is another huge challenge. I think we have something like 120 meetings lined up this year!”
Add in any commitments with Team GB and it will certainly be a busy year for young Brennan – and it all starts at Workington on March 16.
Sponsorship packages are available for the bonanza starting at £100 for a programme advert, then packages at £250 and £400 which offer admission (for two or four respectively), programme adverts, reserved seating and meal vouchers.
