Whitehaven have confirmed that Papua New Guinea star Edene Gebbie has had his visa approved and will soon be on his way to the UK.
The club is now in the process of booking flights for the international who is expected to be an exciting addition to Jonty Gorley’s squad.
A spokesman said: “The club would like to thank the Whitehaven RL Vice Presidents for their support in bringing Edene to the UK alongside all their efforts in supporting the club in a number of areas.”
Gebbie spent time in the NRL development systems with South Sydney Rabbitohs and Wests Tigers as well as enjoying a spell in the Queensland Cup with Townsville Blackhawks.
Gebbie, who can play full-back, wing or centre, has won three caps for his country since making his international debut in 2019.
The 28-year-old, who played in PNG’s win over Great Britain in 2019, was named in the Kumuls’ World Cup squad last year but had to withdraw due to a groin injury.
