A Kendal road has been closed due to unsafe buildings.
Westmorland and Furness Council has closed Stricklandgate because a row of buildings have become an immediate safety risk.
The authority issued a dangerous structure notice for 133 to 139 Stricklandgate after a period of monitoring.
Yesterday, Tuesday February 13, it said: “The building has unfortunately deteriorated to the point where it is considered to be an immediate safety risk and causing danger to the public and therefore requires demolition.
“Our highways and building control team are working together to make sure the operation is delivered safely and as efficiently as possible, enforcing an emergency road closure between 7.30pm and 3am on Wednesday February 14.
“In order to get the abnormal load vehicle that will be used in the demolition to the location safely, there will also be a temporary and very short suspension to the one way system on Stricklandgate, Highgate and Kirkland for up to 15 minutes.
“The vehicle will access the site via Kirkland and Highgate, and then travel the one way system through Stricklandgate and the pedestrianised area of town under traffic management and with the support of Cumbria police. Following completion of the work, the vehicle will follow the reverse journey.
“Teams will be working through the night to minimise as much disruption to road users as possible, with the safety of our communities being our top priority.”

In November 2021, we reported that 133 to 139 Stricklandgate would be transformed into a luxury development called Cavendish Court.
