Keswick picked up five valuable Regional Two North points in their fight to avoid the drop.
They beat relegation rivals Stockton 27-17 which was especially rewarding as the five points gained also confirmed none for the opposition.
It was, in fact, a busy Davidson Park double header with Keswick 2nds taking on Egremont in Counties 1 Cumbria.
Kick off times were 15 minutes apart allowing the first team to support their clubmates for the last quarter of an hour of their game.
Against Stockton, Keswick were quick out of the blocks, particularly through the forwards and they kept pressure on, particularly in the scrums.
The return of Mike Tait to the front row has galvanised the Keswick pack and this showed in the domination at the set piece.
The first score came after 11 minutes after a series of forward drives led by James Benson, Aaron Thompson and Stephen Moss sucked in Stockton defend.

That made space for Ryan Weir to cut through from 25 metres out to score under the posts with Kieran Mewse converting.
Stockton then started to fight back but the Keswick defence and efficient kick return prevented any score.
When they got back on the attack Keswick started driving the opposition back in the scrums. Eventually, after continual infringement, referee Martin Maughan awarded a penalty try to double the lead at 14-0.

Stockton came back almost immediately to get points on the board through a penalty.
Not more than five minutes later, however, Keswick were back in the driving seat with another long range well taken try by speedster Weir. The conversion was missed biut at half-time Keswick led 19-3.
The half time talk by the Stockton coach seemed to make a difference as the forwards came back hard at Keswick leading to a quick score under the posts after continuous pick and drives.
Keswick fans were starting to wonder once more if they were to be pipped at the post. Nerves were calmed, however, after a series of probing kicks from Glen Weightman and Mewse set up Danny Craghill for a well taken bonus point try in the corner.

It stretched the lead to 24-10 but as often has been the case, the opposition came right back from the kick off and after five minutes of solid pressure forced a try.
Again it came after a series of pick and drives to bring themselves to within seven points and a losing bonus point.
The game ebbed and flowed with neither side breaking defences before astute tactical kicking from Weightman put the Stockton pack under pressure to concede a penalty.

It allowed Mewse to establish a ten point gap to deny the Stockton bonus point so there was a great feeling of relief when the final whistle blew.
The whole team, after clapping Stockton off the pitch, then went to the sidelines to support their 2nds who had, up to that point, fought a brave rearguard action against a bigger and more experienced Egremont side, trailing 16 -23 with 10 minutes to go.
The young Keswick side responded magnificently to the extra support and created field position for Ally Hewitt-Smith to break tackles and crash through for a try under the posts. Steve Holloway coolly slotted the conversion with the last kick of the match to give victory 24-23.
It provided the Keswick club with two great wins on a sodden wet day.
