Kells made progress in the BARLA National Cup for Under-14s at the weekend.
They got through 24-10 at Holderness Vikings and are awaiting Sunday’s draw to find out their opponents in the quarter final.
Rhys Williamson scored one of Kells four tries and he landed all four conversions to collect half of his side’s points.
Team captain Ashton Hetherington also crossed while the other touchdowns came from Harry Vaughan and Archie Robinson.
There could have been two Cumbrian sides into the last eight but unfortunately Distington went down 16-0 at Shevington Sharks.
It was their first taste of National rugby in this season’s competition and both their previous ties had been away so they had done remarkably well having to travel for all three games.
They conceded all 16 points in the first half and that really sealed the tie for the Sharks, but the West Cumbrians put up a really gritty performance in a score-less second half when they were arguably the better side.

The club’s coaches and parents are particularly proud of their achievements on the National stage and are looking forward to see them perform locally when the season starts next month.
Kells and Shevington will be joined in the quarter finals by Blackbrook Royals, Lock Lane, West Hull, Golborne Parkside, Oulton Raiders and Dewsbury Moor or Leigh Miners.
As far as the BARLA senior National Cup is concerned clubs have until Thursday (Feb 29) to enter with so far just 18 confirmed starters in the competition. Long gone are the days when just about every club used to enter.
So far Cumbria has just two entrants – Cockermouth Titans and Lowca.
The competition is due to start on March 30, so time to get some League games under their belts and the final is set for the week-end of August 24/25.
