Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Prestwich Heys was manager Jimmy Marshall’s 100th game in charge of the Mintcakes.
A fifth League win in a row, it kept the Parkside Road club in fifth position chasing an end-of-season play-off place.
Marshall said: “I think I’ve been at the club just over 18 months so it just shows you how many games we do play at this level.
“I don’t think there will have been many 1-0s in there but we’ve had two in a week and they have been so important.
“I’ve said to the lads I like them to get the ball down and play in the right manner but it’s no good if you don’t do the other side of the game and compete physically.
“I think we’ve been looking more solid and although Tuesday wasn’t our best performance it was very good how we battled against one of our promotion rivals.”
Marshall also had praise for the last gasp winning goal from Joe Dickson who had only entered the fray 10 minutes earlier.
“It really was a rocket and worthy of winning any game. But he has that in his boots and I knew he was capable of finding a goal for us.
“He probably hasn’t had the game time he would like recently but the lads are all playing well and contributing. I couldn’t be happier with all 16 of them, even the ones who didn’t get on because there’s a great togetherness about the squad which is going to be vital in the remaining games.
“It’s an old cliché but I’m taking every game one at a time and we will see where that takes us,” added the manager.
The top three in the North West Counties Premier Division – Bury, Wythenshawe Town and Wythenshawe look to have the title and the first two play-off places sorted between them. But at least three clubs – Chadderton, Kendal and Prestwich – have an interest in the last two play-off spots and there could be more.
It’s pointing to an exciting finish to the season with Kendal Town still having everything to play for.
