The last of the three trial trails at St Helena were enjoyed with some nice weather to help.

The pups were the first to slip and as they showed it was Barry Laidler and Caroline Clough’s Snowfell who finished well and clear of the remaining pups to win nicely.

He had shaved a minute off the previous trail time and a minute-and-a-half off the time before that.

In second place was James and Ava McClelland’s Countess Ava who has run consistently at St Helena, finishing in the first three each time.

She may have had a slight advantage as its more than likely she will have been trialing there during the winter months as well but she ran well nevertheless.

In third place was Grace Napier’s Foxparke Toot Toot who also finished well.

Barry and Caroline’s Snowfell is bred out of last year’s Senior Champion Winterfell and Maggie’s Dream so he seems to be showing promise already but there’s still a long way to go.

The senior hounds were next to slip and it was a one-two for the Bulman and Brown kennel with the good looking Hey Mac finishing in first, just pipping Dundee in to second place.

Joel Bulman seems to have regained his interest in the sport, looking as though he has come straight from school in his uniform to help out catching the hounds.

Rex The Rocket finished in third place for the Irving family with all three hounds featuring in the top three in one race or another over the three meetings.

Last to go was the All-In race with 10 runners and it was Jame and Ava McClelland’s other hound Glamourous Ava, last year’s pup, who came home first followed closely by Stuart and Jacob Jeynes and Tania Satterthwaite’s Off-Spring.

He didn’t feature in too many races last year as he was late bred but is showing good signs that he has matured and is good enough to be up there with the other hounds.

Action moves to Kirkland on Friday night with the first of two trail trails split by one at Kirkbride on the Saturday on the airfield.
