Major buildings in Carlisle will be lit up for World Parkinson’s Day this week.
On Thursday, April 11, the Citadel Buildings, Court Square, Crown & Mitre Hotel, Eden Bridges and St Cuthbert’s Church will be lit up blue.
World Parkinson’s Day celebrates the global Parkinson’s community and shines a light on the condition.
Parkinson’s is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world. In the UK alone, over 153,000 people are living with the condition for which there is currently no cure.
The Carlisle Branch of Parkinson’s UK works hard throughout the year to make sure that support is available locally to everyone living with or affected by Parkinson’s.
As well as holding a monthly group meeting and providing access to exercise classes, the group holds events and outings.
On April 13, the branch is holding a coffee morning at Houghton Village Hall and on the same day with the support of Carlisle United, will be collecting at Brunton Park for the game against Blackpool.
Every penny raised from both of these events is going towards Parkinson’s research. As the largest European charitable funder of Parkinson’s research, Parkinson’s UK has invested over £100 million in vital research that has delivered ground-breaking discoveries, new medications and better care.
