Cumberland FA’s referee development officer, Scott Taylor has reached a significant milestone on his latest fundraising effort.
Scott is aiming to run every day until June and has reached the 100 day milestone.
In doing so he has surpassed his 2023 effort while raising funds for raising funds for the county’s partnership with the British Heart Foundation.
Scott has already run 227 miles in 104 days which has included a number of half marathons for good causes and various events around the country (while fitting in his day job and refereeing career).
In 2023 Scott ran every day until March 10 – Scott’s ultimate aim is to run each day until Friday 14 June which is the opening game of the Euros 2024, which will smash is 2021 effort which ended in mid-May that year.
Scott said: “I ran for Eden Valley Hospice in Carlisle last Sunday in the London Landmarks Half Marathon. It was an amazing experience, with the last mile over Westminster Bridge and past Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.
“We started just off the Mall near Trafalgar Square and finished on Whitehall next to the Cenotaph by Downing Street! On the Saturday we did Fulham Palace Park Run 5K and met Sophie Raworth from BBC News, who was one of their volunteer marshals.
“I’m raising money for the British Heart Foundation and I’d be so grateful for more support. The BHF has helped halve the number of people dying from heart and circulatory disease in the UK but sadly every day hundreds of people lose their lives.
“Fred Conway was a dear friend and also my County FA Chairman and he sadly passed away in November 2022 from a heart related disease.
“I am the referee development officer for the Cumberland FA and for the past few years I have tried to run every day from the 1st January, initially raising funds for RED January and mental health in sport.
“Last year I made it through to the March 10 and in 2021 to mid-May. This year I want to reach Friday 14th June which is the opening game of the Euros 2024.”
Cumberland FA is encouraging 50 Teams (or Clubs) to raise or donate £50 during this football season to support the British Heart Foundation.
There are a number of Clubs across the County already supporting the vital work of the BHF through the 50 for 50 campaign. So far 14 clubs/teams have signed up to support the partnership throughout the season.
Abbeytown Ladies raised £185 at one fixture selling teas and coffees while Workington Reds Ladies have donated £50 from a recent fixture with information included in their match day programme.
St Joseph’s Walking Football Team also donated following the Cumberland FA Walking Football League event with Whitehaven AFC donating £50 towards the total.
More Cumberland Teams and Clubs have signed up to the partnership to support throughout the season:
