Penrith Ladies continued their good run of form with a 2-1 win at Morecambe and they sit second in the North West Regional league.
The game proved to be a tough affair on a heavy testing pitch and it was Morecambe who started the better of the two teams, creating the early chances.
However, the Penrith defence weathered the early pressure and they gradually played themselves into the game.
The lively Kayleigh Wharton and Jodie English started to influence the game for Penrith, the latter unfortunate to have penalty claims waved away. Neither team could find the breakthrough and the score remained 0-0 at half time.
Within two minutes of the second half Penrith took the lead. A good move saw Penrith cut through the Morecambe team and release Abbie Forster, who finished well for her 15th league goal in 15 games.
The Morecambe response was immediate with Nat Broad finishing well from 20 yards out to level the score.
Penrith pushed hard for the winner, but they had to wait until the 85th to go back in front when a Kim McCormick free kick was met by Heather Fawkes at the back post, and she headed well into the top corner.
Again Morecambe rallied and it took a fantastic save from the Penrith goalkeeper Hope Lawson in the 91 st minute to keep Penrith ahead and secure all three points.
Jodie English, the Penrith striker, was awarded player of the game for an industrious effort.
Next up for Penrith is a home game against Carlisle United at home tomorrow night.
