The picturesque village of Brigham played host to the eighth annual 10k run, which included a two-year absence due to the pandemic.
Organised by the teachers and parents of St Bridget’s Primary School, the event saw 140 runners crossing the starting line.
Blain Rooney, of Border Harriers, claimed victory in the men’s category, clocking in at an impressive time of 00:33:44, while Chloe Kendal narrowly missed the female course record by just one second, finishing in a swift 00:40:41.
From seasoned athletes to spirited seniors, participants of all ages laced up their running shoes to support a worthy cause.
Every stride taken contributed to the fundraising efforts for Friends of St Bridget’s, ensuring funds for educational resources and enriching extracurricular activities for the children of St Bridget’s Primary School.
Every finisher received a hand-crafted medal, made by children at St Bridget’s School.
The community spirit was palpable as runners were cheered on by enthusiastic marshals, volunteers, and local residents lining the route.
A special mention goes to Phil from TAB Fitness and Wellbeing for leading an invigorating warm-up session, setting the pace for the energetic race ahead.
The post-race festivities were a hit, with a raffle and tombola raising over £450, and a cake stall tempting taste buds and raising nearly £300. Generous contributions from local businesses and individuals made these fundraising efforts possible.
Jennie Cunningham said: “Thank you to one and all for holding this brilliant local event. We had a wonderful time, and all the cheeriness of the marshals, volunteers, and residents really helped to keep the legs moving. We really enjoyed the bubble machine on route. Cakes were delicious. Well, done to the medal makers too.”
Clive Bontoft praised the event’s organisation and community support, while Lisa Slater highlighted the motivating effect of the enthusiastic crowd.
Egertons Recovery, Tendley Quarries, and Kong Running were sponsors of the event, alongside Brigham Social Club, whose premises provided the perfect backdrop for the day’s festivities. Lawsons also helped out by supplying the broom wagon.
The Brigham 10k once again proved to be a shining example of community spirit and dedication, leaving participants eagerly anticipating next year’s event.
