A new plant-based café is set to open next month in the Lake District.
The Botanical Kitchen, at 4 St Martin’s Parade in Bowness-on-Windermere, will open on May 1.
The premises, previously home to the Ubuntu Café Bar, were taken over in March by Debbie Scott in a deal arranged by the business transfer specialist, Blacks Business Brokers.
The café has now been refurbished with a new botanical themed décor. Ms Scott will be supported by three members of staff, two of whom previously worked at Ubuntu, and she is actively looking to recruit more staff in expectation of a busy summer.
Although an IT professional by trade, Ms Scott is a trained chef who has previously worked in restaurant kitchens.

During lockdown she established WR Udderly Nuts, a producer and online supplier of plant-based cheeses and condiments.
Ms Scott moved to the Lake District from Berwick-upon-Tweed last year, with the intention of setting up a café that would help change people’s preconceptions about vegan food.

Although the two businesses will remain separate, she plans to include We R Udderly Nuts’ cheeses as part of vegan charcuterie platters that will be served at The Botanical Kitchen.
She said: “These premises are in a perfect location, close to the promenade and lake cruise jetties, and I would like to thank Blacks for making the process of taking over the lease so straightforward.

“Now that all the preparations are complete, I can’t wait to welcome Bowness’s residents and visitors to The Botanical Kitchen and demonstrate just how delicious and interesting plant-based food can be.”
