A young Cockermouth Academicals side went down by 46 runs against Workington in the West Cumbria Midweek League.

Fielding two 12-year-olds and a 14-year-old, the Academicals were always playing catch-up after being set 150 to win in their 20 overs.

Skipper Liam Irving (30ret), Robson Scott (25) and a late flurry from Ben Scott (25no – which included three sixes and a four) saw Workington reach 149-8.

One of Cockermouth’s youngsters Joshua Zaninetti took 1-6 from his two overs while the experienced John Nettleton had 2-8.

Tim Dintinger led the Cockermouth response with 31ret and there was good response from Arthur Nettleton (19) and Robert Owen (17).

But although they fell short on 103/6 there were some encouraging contributions from the Accies youngsters against a more experienced Workington side.

Fourteen-year-old Arthur Nettleton opened both the batting and bowling; 12-year-old Joshua Zaninetti bowled well, clean bowling a Workington second teamer, and he also took a fine catch while 12-year-old Ted Nettleton batted and bowled well.
