West Cumbrian Dan Bewley won the British Final last night for his third successive title.
Although he was only second top scorer after 20 heats he produced a superb pass in the final to take the lead from Tai Woffinden and went on to win.
He only won two of his five races earlier, but along with three second places it was enough to put him straight through to the final.
Tom Brennan, who had beat him in the final heat 20 topped the qualifiers with 13 points, one more than Bewley and those two went straight through to the final.
In a dramatic semi-final Woffinden produced an outrageous pass to get inside Chris Harris and Steve Worrall to win and make the final, in search of his fourth British title.
Woffinden was competing in the final for the first time in 10 years and it looked as if he meant business, blasting into the lead.
But Bewley hunted him down and with a superb inside pass got to the front on lap three and stayed there for a hat-trick of victories in the prestige event.
Bewley said: “Three in a row is just awesome, and it’s such a cool meeting to come to. It’s one of the biggest meetings of the year for us, so to get three in a row is still surreal.
“Tai has got three in a row so for me to match that is pretty cool. He was in front in the Final and I knew it was going to be difficult to make something happen.
“But I just thought if I could stay on his back wheel and hope a door opens, and a little one did and I got through.
“Everything is coming round, little pieces, and I’m just getting that bit more consistent.”
Bewley was one of four ex-Comets riders in the field, along with current Workington captain Craig Cook.
Although he won his second ride he only managed three thirds, finishing last in his penultimate race.
Charles Wright won two heats, one after a superb battle with Bewley, but his chances were spoilt by a first race exclusion for bringing down Jordan Jenkins.
A second and a last completed his tally of 8 which put him out of semi-final contention, along with one of the Great Britain riders Robert Lambert who had 9.
Ex-Comet Kyle Howarth enjoyed his moment with a fine win in his second outing but a second, third and two lasts for six points saw him down the field.
The fourth ex-Comet Simon Lambert had a disappointing night as he had four lasts and a retirement.
