Egremont came out on top 22-8 in their local derby, the only game played over the weekend in the National Conference Premier Division.
It gained revenge for a 24-8 defeat at Kells early in the season and pulled the Rangers just two points behind their west Cumbrian neighbours and Wath Brow, in the table.
Kells had started well and took the lead in the 17th minute with an unconverted try but Egremont had established a 6-4 lead by half-time with a try from Leon Crellin on the half hour which was converted by Matt Bewsher.
Seven minutes into the second-half Tom Houghton crossed for Egremont’s second try and 10 minutes later Seamus Hutton went over to extend the home lead.
Egremont scored again just after the hour through Mike Ellwood and the Bewsher conversion just about sealed the win.
On 71 minutes a bad tackle by Frazer McNee on Grant Gainford resulted in a yellow card, and also the Kells player being taken to hospital with a head injury.

It was Kells who had the final say with an unconverted try by Sam Murtagh, which came too late to affect the result.
Rhys Davies, the Egremont coach said: “I was over the moon with the performance that we put on show.

“I thought we dominated for long periods of the game and if our execution had been better at times we could have had a lot more points on the scoreboard.”
Kells coach Peter Smith said: “It was a typical derby game with both teams going at each other and looking for the first mistake, which came our way with a great effort by Jake Parker.

“Then we failed to clear a kick from which they scored and they moved on from there.
“The injury to Grant Gainford in the last ten minutes meant that game finished on a flat note as far as we were concerned.

“He has spent the week-end in hospital with a small bleed on the brain but we are expecting to see him home this afternoon.”
