Workington Reds boss Mark Fell has landed his third new signing with confirmation that former Annan Athletic defender Steve Swinglehurst is on his way to Borough Park.
Subject to international clearance Swinglehurst will become part of the Workington squad, bringing stacks of experience with him.
A plumber by trade, Swinglehurst has been brought into to plug the leaks in Workington’s defence which was one of the most vulnerable in NPL Premier Division last season.
The 31-year-old had joined Annan in 2012 and went on to make a record 326 starts for the Scottish League side.
He had started with his hometown club Carlisle United, part of the youth set-up at Brunton Park and included was a six-match loan spell with the Reds.
Workington manager Mark Fell said: “Steven is a great fit for us, a leader and has excellent qualities as a centre-half.
“He’s in really good shape and is the type of committed, brave defender who will put his heart and soul into preventing the opposition scoring, something I know our supporters will enjoy watching.”
Swinglehurst said: “Signing for Workington was a no-brainer for me. They are a team on the up and I’m excited to be part of that.
“After speaking with the gaffer over the last couple of weeks I am confident that we can put his plans into action on the pitch.
“I’ve got a great feeling about what’s to come and hope to contribute to a successful season for the fans.”
There will be a couple of familiar faces at the Reds when he starts pre-season training as he’s played with both Kai Nugent and Alex Mitchell at Annan.
